Prep: Oil: 3 Liters 20W50 Socket Wrench
Oil Filter 14mm Socket
16mm O-ring Part #670B1508 17mm Socket
90mm O-ring Part #671B2590 #3 Phillips Screwdriver
Crush Washers (2) Drain Pan
Warm up engine
Procedure:
1.
Place the Concours on the centerstand
I place a 2x6" piece of board underneath the centerstand to give me a little more room to work with.
2.
Remove the bottom fairing
Use the #3 Phillips screwdriver to remove the bottom fairing.
3.
Place a drain pan beneath the drain bolts and oil filter
4.
Remove the two (2) oil drain bolts
5.
Remove oil filter bolt and oil filter
• Oil filter bolt
• Oil filter cover
• 16mm O-ring
• 90mm O-ring
• Spring
• Washer, 20.5 x 30 x 1
• Oil filter
• Oil filter plate: Part #13169-1313 (Looks more like a cup then a plate).
The 16mm O-ring holds the oil filter cover on nice and tight, so the cover has to be popped off of the filter bolt to expose the 16mm O-ring.
6.
Remove the oil filler cap
The oil filler cap is located on the left side, between the carburators and the shifter and just in front of the side panel cover. I remove the filler cap last to lessen the amount of oil that drains while I'm removing the drain plugs.
7.
Wait for the oil to drain
The oil filler cap is located on the left side, between the carburators and the shifter and in front of the left side panel. While I'm waiting for the oil to drain I clean and inspect the oil filter bolt and install a new 16mm O-ring on it.
8.
Install the drain bolts and crush washers
Replace the drain bolts and crush washers. If necessary, then replace the crush washers. Many owners have reused the same crush washers over and over with no ill effects. Crush washers are cheap, so if not replacing them is going to keep you up at nights, then by all means replace them. Torque the oil drain bolts to 22 ft lbs.
9.
Install the oil filter and O-rings
Replace the 90mm O-ring on the filter cover and assemble the oil filter assembly. Many times the washer that fits between the oil filter and the spring will attach itself to the bottom of the old oil filter, so check to see that the washer isn't stuck on the bottom of the old filter. Torque the oil filter bolt to 14.5 ft lbs.
10.
Fill with oil
Fill with three (3) LITERS of 20W50 oil. If you buy oil in Quarts instead of LITERS, then fill with exactly 3.170064447 QUARTS of oil. I use Golden Spectro 4 synthetic oil, but any oil that is 20W50 will do.
11.
Screw on the oil filler cap
12.
Go on a short 5 to 10 minute ride
13.
Place the Concours on the centerstand
Park on a flat surface and place the Concours on the centerstand. Do not use a 2x6" board underneath the centerstand.
14.
Wait 20 minutes
Go inside and treat yourself to your favorite beverage and set the timer for exactly 20 minutes.
15.
Check the oil level
After 20 minutes, peer into the site glass and confirm that the oil level is between the high and low marks on the site glass and congratulate yourself on a job well done.
